In 1992, fed up with mowing lawns and repairing lawnmowers just to be able to mow my lawn again, it occurred to me that a well keptstrawberry garden could look just as nice as a lawn, and provide something good tasting at the same time, and decided that I would eventually replace my grass, dandelions, chickweed, and crabgrass with strawberries. Upon making this momentous decision, I dug deep into my pocket and blew my budget on two strawberry plants.
In 1993, I had 18 plants, and the next year, my garden consisted of 68 plants. The summer of 95 saw 166 plants, but the next winter was particularly harsh, since the deep frost came before the first snow, so I started 1966 with 50 hardy plants. At this writing, in 1997, my garden consists of 180 plants in varying degrees of maturity.
